About the Artist...
Larry Ziemer, artist from Monticello, Illinois, has been directly associated with some phase of art all of his adult life. After having spent seven years in commercial art, in 1970, Ziemer, and his wife, Carol, made the decision to discard the trappings of a conventional lifestyle. Leaving the security of jobs and home behind, they, along with their son, Nick, took to the road in search of a dream. That road led to a continuing number of extended painting trips to Maine, Cape Cod, Florida, New Orleans, and Michigan. That dream was to see if they could make a living selling Ziemer's paintings. You can witness the results of that decision made years ago by visiting Ziemer Gallery.
Now available, "A Journal for Nick", by Carol Ziemer. This journal was transcribed from the original diary kept by Carol as a souvenir for their young son, Nick. The daily entries chronicled that summer many years ago allow the reader to travel along with the artist and his family during the early days of Ziemer's career.
Although Ziemer has worked in many different mediums, his preferences are watercolor painting and acrylic on canvas. Ziemer's imagination and creativity in his paintings range from large, bold, splashy abstracts to soft, delicate, textured collages. From forgotten moments of the past which touch the heart and soul to the absolute silence of fallen snow. The stillness of foggy Maine or the distant warmth of a Midwest sunset. These images leave the viewer lost in thought and filled with satisfaction for having had the opportunity to share the world of an artist and his art.
Ziemer has had over thirty one-man exhibits and his work has been exhibited in many group shows across the country. Some of the exhibits include:
